According to our 2013 interview, our mosque was founded in 2000, rather late for many other established Muslim communities in the Bay Area. Imam Siddiqui shared that the mosque was created due to the need of Muslims in the Silicon Valley tech industry to have a permanent place to pray the mandatory Friday prayers. "Until the opening of our mosque, we used office space allotted to us by management (Google, Intel, Cisco) as do many other Muslims in the nearby tech businesses" he said, explaining that the hour long lunch break was not enough time for many employees to reach a local mosque for Friday prayer. Since we all had a similar problem, we decided that we would like a place for all of us in the area to gather and after some innovation and fundraising, we were able to commission an architect firm to create an eco-mosque that is modern and complimentary to the surrounding area. Our mosque serves Muslims of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, but mostly from the industry due to the location.
We decided on the name Tech Mosque as Muslims in the tech industry were the driving forces behind the creation of the mosque.
